"Well no one told me about her, the way she lied
No one told me about her, how many people cried
But its too late to say you're sorry,
How would I know, why should I care?
Please don't bother trying to find her, she's not there"
- "About Her", Malcolm McLaren
I've had that song stuck in my head from the past couple of days and I just had to share those lyrics because I adore that song. It's from the Kill Bill 2 OST and is played during the touching scene where Beatrix tucks in her daughter for the first time. The Music Publishers' Association wants to take away my right to do that though. They're adamant about hunting down sites that offer scores and/or lyrics for free by threat of fines and jail time. I cannot express how idiotic I feel this is. I'm offended as an amateur musician and a music lover. I only look at sites that offer lyrics when I'm hazy about what an artist is saying sometimes, but it's almost always music that I've bought and doesn't have them included in the jacket. Whenever I look up tabs online they're never all that great and I end up just buying the sheet music in the end. Some artists don't even sell sheet music for their stuff. I hope that they fail miserably. Many artists provide their song lyrics on their sites, so I can't imagine why they would even care as long as you're buying their stuff. The MPA is just a group of money-grubbing bastards who can't accept that times may have changed and the need to catch up rather than going around and harassing people. They're choosing the path of aggressive actions rather than conciliation.
I don't really report much on company purchases since they tend to be uninteresting, but EA bought Jamdat today, and that's a big deal, in my opinion, since EA is the biggest video game studio in the world. You can expect to see some really different stuff coming out of Jamdat within another year or so. Most gamers may also want to check out this well-researched editorial on how women are represented in video games. She comes to the conclusion that the gaming community has been pretty good about discouraging scantily clad women, and it makes sense because games don't need sex to be fun. If you use the same password a lot and never change it then you may want to read this article about the worries of that phenomenon creating back doors in companies. Lastly, InfoWorld has compiled some of the best quotes in IT from this year. They actually got some real choice ones I never heard so give it a read.
The King Kong PR machine never quits as it has now released several more clips for the movie as well as given IGN a video interview. On to less redundant matters though: we finally have a trailer for the Project Greenlight movie Feast. I honestly felt that they could've put together a better collection of scenes and dialogue, but I think it'll be better than most people would perceive a first horror movie for a director to be. Another trailer out today is for Ice Age 2, and I can't really tell how funny it will be yet or not but it was still fun to see. MTV caught up with Jack Black to talk to him about his upcoming film, Nacho Libre, and it sounds like a very random movie much in the vein of Anchorman. It doesn't sound like it'll be more funny than stupid yet though. If you're not sure whether or not you should get the "Batman Anthology" then you can read a movie geek's viewpoint, but I think he gives Batman Forever too much credit. If you want to see more shots of Sly Stallone topless then click here, but if you'd rather see the new Hostel poster featuring a woman this time then click here. I promise that it's not gory or anything. Lastly, Seth MacFarlane (of "Family Guy" and "American Dad" fame) has decided to move forward with a live-action comedy series called "Becoming Glen" that was originally a failed pilot, but now the studios want a piece of his hot...action. What did you think I was going to say?
Now for Friday's Feast, which actually began a couple of hours ago when I cooked up some tasty Minced Meat:

Name something you'll miss about 2005.
I really don't know that I will. I guess just that it was the last summer where I could freely hang out with my brother because presumably I'll be working outside of Houston next summer unless I totally screw things up for myself.
Salad
What is one thought that went through your mind today?
I am so freaking hot. Just kidding! I thought about how much more I'd rather party this weekend (even crash parties, if necessary) than start studying for my CS finals. It will not be very fun.
Soup
On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being highest, how compassionate would you say you are?
I'd say a 7 or an 8. I'm always pretty aware of when how other people feel and I can't stand someone around me being unhappy without trying to do something and I can't live myself if I've hurt someone and haven't apologized.
Main Course
If you could invent something, what would it be?
An alarm clock that slaps you. That'd be pretty cool.
Dessert
Do you prefer salty snacks or sweet treats?
I have such a sweet tooth. You can get tired of salty snacks easily, but you can eat sweets until you get a stomach ache. I also like girly drinks because they're so sweet. I've actually started gravitating more towards beer than punch at recent gatherings, however.

I have NO clue why the record companies don't want lyrics online. Here's one big difference between a song and a song lyric: With a song, you need the actual recording, in whatever format, to share it in public. With song lyrics, you can just speak them out loud, or write them down, and no one can stop you!
We're just dollar bills to them. Nothing more. It's really sad.
Elton, you are such a boozehound!
Did you know Coldplay came to UT and played in the basement of the communications building? Yeah! It was news to me too!
Good luck on finals and hopefully I'll see you at Banquet!
This meme, I have to do.

2005 was probably the worst of my good years. #2 I guess owning my first motorcycle. That felt so good. Riding too fast felt so good too... #1 buying our house.

I love her so much. I hope we get to be grandparents, shouting for nothing at kids and listening to good music. Taking said kids to the beach and just be happy. I need to tell her more often.

Argh. 9,97. That's a hard truth. I care too much. That a reason I have to keep people at bay.

If you could invent something, what would it be?
Invent? ... I wish I could invent something to make money, petroleum, pollution go away. I'd make it free, of course and no one would know it was me.
I hate your invention! How crappy can it be to actually get slapped in the morning! Although it feels that way sometimes.

Salty snack.
